  55.                     BEFORE GOING TO COURT
  56.                     ---------------------
  57.  
  58. 1.   Write down your version of what happened exactly right
  59. after you get stoped, if you wait to long to do this you may
  60. forget important information.
  61.  
  62. 2.   Get plenty of rest the night before your court date
  63. appearance. If you have those blood shot eyes the judge may
  64. just want to mistaken you for a wino he had in court earlier.
  65.  
  66. 3.   Dress neatly and don't look like that bum in overalls.
  67. But also don't show up in your most expensive $1500 suit
  68. because if the judge notices this he may say, "what the heck
  69. he can pay this fine if he can afford a suit like this!"
  70.  
  71. 4.   Don't act nervous when in court, if you act like you are
  72. not sure of yourself then you will probably be convicted. Act
  73. bright and tell the judge what happened in your own words.
  74. Remember that he sees ignorant criminals all day but if you
  75. act like you understand what is going on and you have a good
  76. case brought up then you will have a much better chance of
  77. getting that ticket dismissed.
  78.  
  79. 5.   Watch your overall attitude, don't act like you know
  80. more than the judge because this will only get him angered at
  81. you and he will be ruff on you.
  82.  
  83. 6.   Don't ever interrupt the judge for any reason, your
  84. attorney may do so but as the accused you should never do
  85. that. Also never laugh frown or give a bad face if you hear
  86. something that you don't like. This will only get you in more
  87. trouble.
  88.  
  89. 7.   Smile at all times. But don't give a hokey smile.
  90. Genuine friendliness will definitely help anyone going
  91. before a judge.
  92.  
  93. 8.   Everyone once and a while in court you should maybe act
  94. stupid. Yes I said stupid. Your honor I never knew that there
  95. was still a 55 law in effect. I heard on CNN that it had all
  96. changed.
  97.  
  98. 9.   It wouldn't be a bad idea to mention to the judge that
  99. you are in some type of helpful social club. Red Cross, Lions
  100. Club etc. But don't tell them you are part of the SCCA
  101. championship race drivers club, or that you are in the
  102. National Rifle Association.
  103.  
  104. 10.  Be easy going, don't be stubborn...judges hate people
  105. that are angered at them.

  109.                ELECTRONIC MONITORING OF POLICE
  110.                -------------------------------
  111.  
  112. One way of seeing where your local highway patrol officer is
  113. patrolling on the highways simply purchase a Scanner at a
  114. nearby Radio Shack they also sell all the equipment you need
  115. to get this set up into your car to monitor the highway
  116. patrol channels.  The use of a scanner can be very useful to
  117. find out where a patrol car may have a speed trap set up.
  118. They will often announce there direction say I-35 North and
  119. then they will often say the milemarker...EXAMPLE: 46. On the
  120. side of the highway you can see these little green number
  121. signs and watch them for where your at and where they are
  122. ahead of you.

  142. Radar detectors simply search the highways for police radar
  143. and respond back to the driver with a warning, giving the
  144. driver time to slow down and react. There are two different
  145. bands in use today. The X band far range (EASY TO DETECT) is
  146. the older band and is now being replaced in most major cities
  147. by the K band which can be more accurate and less bulky in
  148. the police car. The K band is often in the gun form which is
  149. light weight and easy to use..they simply point and pull the
  150. trigger...a quick beam is sent out and returned...This makes
  151. it harder for radar detectors to get a signal. On the other
  152. types of radar the radar emits out all the time for the
  153. detectors to receive the wave. But with the gun or "instant
  154. on" this can be shot at you and by the radar detector tells
  155. you, you are already nabbed. The only way you might get lucky
  156. is if he shoots a car in front of you so your radar detector
  157. can pick this up and warn you! I still suggest using one but
  158. don't feel they are near as affective anymore. It is not a
  159. license to speed if you have one but it does help in aiding
  160. you to slow down if you know there is some reason to.
  161. On the Escort and Passport Models a separate tone is given by
  162. the radar detector if it receives K band this is helpful
  163. because if there is a Gas Station or Grocery store nearby
  164. they use automatic door openers that set radar detectors off
  165. with an alert on X band. If your radar detector hears this it
  166. gives you a beep like a cop on radars. But knowing that the K
  167. band makes a different noise on the Escort and Passport then
  168. you know if you encounter this tone it is almost for sure a
  169. police officer....There are virtually no false alarms on the
  170. K band.
  171.  
  172.          TIPS ON GETTING A SPEEDING TICKET DISMISSED
  173.          -------------------------------------------
  174.  
  175. 1.   When the officer issues you a ticket, later look at that
  176. ticket. If he noted the wrong date, the wrong time, the wrong
  177. type of car...misspelled your name...or incorrectly stated
  178. anything then you can almost always get this ticket dismissed
  179. on the grounds of illegitimate ticket. The judge will not
  180. notice this so you must bring it to the judges attention.
  181.  
  182. 2.   If your officer doesn't show up to court you
  183. automatically get your ticket dismissed on the grounds that
  184. there is no evidence there to accuse you of being guilty.
  185.  
  186. 3.   If you were caught speeding on radar the officer must
  187. bring with him to court the calibration records of that
  188. radar unit he used on you to prove that it has been checked
  189. recently to make sure it is working properly. The judge will
  190. not bring this up, you must bring this up!
  191.  
  192. 4.   Get an attorney! Of the tickets dismissed, there were
  193. considerably more people that used the services of a lawyer.
  194. And I suggest that you do the same!
  195.  
  196.           HOW TO DRIVE FAST WITHOUT GETTING SPOTTED
  197.           -----------------------------------------
  198.  
  199. 1.   When driving fast, stay in a pack of cars that are also
  200. driving fast. This way you will have less chance of being
  201. caught.
  202.  
  203. 2.   Stay awake by keeping an eye on the road ahead of you
  204. as well as watching out the rear view mirror.  If you are
  205. in an area that uses aircraft, watch for planes flying
  206. along side the highway. Also keep and eye on over passes.
  207.  
  208. 3.   Help spread the word of a cop in the area. Flash your
  209. headlights on and off to warn other drivers of possible
  210. speed traps.

  213.                                    TOM SPEED

  215.  
  216.     In the Texas area and now even on reportedly some
  217. highway in Oklahoma there are new devices set up that
  218. take a picture of the license plate of a car that is
  219. speeding.  If you were speeding and they get a pic of
  220. your plate then you will be sent in the mail a ticket.
  221. The way you see these is look at the top of bridges after
  222. you go under one, on the back side you may see this large
  223. bulky camera unit mounted. This is one of those devices.
  224. They are in large use in Europe and they are making a
  225. move into the states...watch out!
